Mothers won’t pardon BSY for separating a family: Siddaramaiah on Bidar school play row

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah says his successor from the BJP has lost “his common sense” by taking action against a Bidar school for a play expressing dissent against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the amended citizenship law.

A sedition case was filed against the Shaheen School, its headmistress and the mother of a student. The two women, Fareeda Begum and Nazbunnisa, have been arrested. A court’s decision on their bail plea is awaited.

Siddaramiah asked how content criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his polices could amount to sedition. “The arrest of the mother is unconstitutional and high-handed,” he said.

“Mothers of this state will not pardon [Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa] for separating the mother and her daughter.”

Siddaramaiah also called for a review of antiquated laws.
