Priyanka Gandhi security breach: I am worried for my daughter, says Robert Vadra

Robert Vadra, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s husband, has said that he is now worried about the security of his children as the Modi government has downgraded his family’s security cover from SPG to Z-plus.

In an interview with India Today TV, Robert Vadra said, “If I am speaking here today, it is not for the security of Priyanka but for the security of the children, of the women of this country. I have a daughter as well and I am worried for her today.”

Robert Vadra had also raised the issue of women security in India in connection with the security breach at their residece on November 25 in a Facebook post.

“Its not about the security for Priyanka, my daughter and son or me or the Gandhi family… It’s about keeping our citizens especially the women of our country, safe and feeling secure.

“Security throughout the country is compromised… Girls are being molested/raped, what society are we creating… Security of every citizen is the government’s responsibility,” Robert Vadra said in a series of tweets on Tuesday morning.

While talking to India Today TV on Tuesday evening, Robert Vadra said that it was ‘wrong to say that the Gandhi family is hankering for SPG security for itself.’

“Security assessment cannot be on whims and fancies of anyone. It has to be on the basis of an assessment of threat perception,” he said.

On November 25, five Congress workers were allowed to enter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s residence without a security check.

Explaining the breach, Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday told Rajya Sabha that it was coincidental as the security was told that Rahul Gandhi was expected to arrive there in a black SUV. “When a black SUV arrived at the same time, it was not checked and allowed in. It was a rare coincidence but it did happen,” Amit Shah said. The home minister said that a probe has been ordered and three concerned officers have been suspended.
